What happens when you miss just one night on the TiVo? October 20, 2006

Filed under: Comedies, Dramas, Fall 2006, New Shows, Television, TiVo Matters — tvturtle @ 4:02 pm

You mess up your entire TV schedule.  I think I watched Monday shows on Tuesday and one Tuesday show (Gilmore Girls) and then Wednesday was dedicated to all of Tuesday’s shows, Thursday we finished watching Weds shows (luckily Weds is our slimmest day) and tonight we’ll finish Thursday’s shows and then MAYBE watch Friday’s shows…..I really watch too much TV.  But it’s free entertainment, who can beat free*??

So let’s see, I read on ‘The Remote’ that 30 Rock and 20 Good Years aren’t doing so hot in the ratings, surprised? Not me…..30 Rock sucks, so why even stick around for 20 Good Years?  Even though I LOVE 20 GYs….I can see it getting cancelled.  NBC really needs to broaden their horizions when it comes to show types.  They are sticking to the stupid comedies and law dramas, granted this season they finally got out of their law and doctor drama rut and found Studio 60 and Friday Night Lights but still….they need people who actually WATCH TV choosing shows and not some suits who read focus group reports.  NBC used to be THE Network, then CBS stole that from them and now ABC is starting to steal the spotlight from CBS.  There have been times when I forget that NBC even exists….sad.

So hopefully this weekend I’ll get caught up on the TiVo and get my schoolwork done and won’t have to disappear for a week to finish my final project.  I’ll post when something relevant happens on TV…..maybe….if I get to see it happen, that is.

*yes, I know that TV isn’t really FREE, we pay a sattellite bill, but at least we aren’t charged per hour….damn THAT would be a big bill!

Sunday and Monday all rolled into one! October 16, 2006

The Amazing Race- Peter, oh poor little Peter….The man who makes me want to hurl my shoe at the TV when he’s on there whining or screaming at poor Sara about something or another “YOU CAN DO IT! RUN SARA!” Blah, blah, blah….. He’s an ass, we’ve figured that out.  I’m glad that Kentucky didn’t get eliminated, but I’m sure that’s going to happen next week.  I just hope the ‘recovering addicts/models’ get eliminated next…they’re annoying me.  And soon I’ll be breaking out the tequilia and everytime they say “We’re recovering addicts” I’m going to drink a shot.  I should be good and sloshed by the pit stop.

Brothers & Sisters- I am just so in love with this show….I think I’m going to create my own category of shows, the ones that I love so much that the kids must be quiet, no one should talk to me or try to get my attention while ‘My Stories’ are on…included in this category are; Gilmore Girls, Grey’s Anatomy and now Brothers & Sisters.  It’s an excellent show! Go watch it! NOW!…well maybe not now, but soon!

Monday-

How I Met Your Mother- OMG! How funny was it that Lilly and Barney were living together? HA! That was sooo funny! And Marshall’s ‘bro’ dating…heeee! I giggled more than I ever have through this show! Great episode.

The Class- Well, well, well…little Richie is married it seems!  Very interesting!  And who, by a show of hands, believe that the snarky girl will resent the bambi dude once she toughens him up…….after they start dating of course. yeah, me too.

Houswives update over that The Remote…go there, read and read the other stuff there, there is a ton of good info over there, I read it everyday! ;-)

30 Rock = Lead Balloon? October 12, 2006

Filed under: Comedies, Fall 2006, New Shows — tvturtle @ 9:16 pm

Maybe I’m in the minority here, but I was so unimpressed with ‘30 Rock’ that I am going to take it off the TiVo.  It didn’t interest me in any way, shape or form.  It is one of those shows that touts big names, but little thought into the writing.  I just didn’t care for it.  Then again, I don’t like the ’stupid comedy’ type shows.  ‘Scrubs’ didn’t interest me when I saw the first episode (although I did watch an episode or two last season and it was OK, not as bad as some other shows, but I still have too much to watch during that time slot), I don’t like the newer SNL’s either, so that’s probably why I don’t like 30 Rock.  But I really think it just bombed last night.  I read all the reviews and how hilarious 30 Rock was going to be, but it just didn’t deliver.

Now, Twenty Good Years…THAT was funny! Jeffery Tambor and John Lithgow have great chemistry, and the writing was excellent, the cast was perfect, and it was just an all around good show! That one is staying on the TiVo.

So, was anyone else disappointed with 30 Rock?  I did think it was very weird that NBC has two shows that are about SNL-like shows and the writers and producers of the show…very weird indeed, and they both premiered the same season….Hmmmmmmm…..

Sunday TV ROCKS and Some News October 9, 2006

Filed under: Fall 2006, New Shows, Reality TV, TV Junkfood — tvturtle @ 4:04 pm

The Amazing Race was great last night!  I really think that Sara has had it with Peter and is about over him being a jackass, I can’t say I blame her.  When I first said aloud “That Peter dude is an ASS!” my husband was shocked and asked why I thought that….Last night, however he said aloud “Wow! He really is an asshole!”  Yes, my friends…Dr. Peter is an asshole, it’s offical, I think so, my husband thinks so, and I’m pretty sure Dr. Peter’s own girldfriend even thinks so.  I would really like to see him get off his ass and do a road block that requires skill and strength, I’m sure I could make fun of him for HOURS!

I was sorry to see T n T go, but really they broke down and just fell apart.  I’m a little sick of the beauty queens though, I was digging them last week, but this week they’re just annoying.  And weren’t they suppose to have their clue, all parts of it, when they cross the pit stop or they’re docked 30 minutes?  They weren’t docked, or maybe they were and it was edited out, it looked like T n T came in HOURS after the girls did.

Desperate Housewives was GREAT last night!  Go on over to Pass The Remote and read it, it’s worth it, really.

Brothers & Sisters was AWESOME, it was just beautiful when Nora announced to the entire party that she knew her husband’s mistress was in their presence and that she lived in a house that Nora’s late husband bought and paid for.  I smiled the entire time through that scene.  I am really digging this show and am so glad that I caught it early, have seen it from the start AND it’s popular…for once I picked the right show….Now, why didn’t ‘Heroes’ intrest me at all and it’s soooo popular?  I don’t get it, it sounds sooooo stupid to me, but it’s one of the more popular shows…how weird.

Now, on to the editorial part…’Smith’ has been cancelled by CBS.  I can’t say that I’m surprised, it was pretty boring and stupid and I couldn’t get into really caring about any of the characters….besides it just clears up one more time spot on the TiVo, right?  But every time that a show gets cancelled I feel bad for the actors and for the crew and the folks who enjoyed the show.  We have been victims of early cancellation before and it just SUCKS to really get into a show and then have some execs pull it off the schedule and never see it again…it’s almost as if it never existed.  But then again, that’s show business right?  Now, I hope that some more shows fall quickly, that way I can’t get attached to them too much before they get the axe.

My Apologies! September 30, 2006

Sorry for no update, Thursday and Friday were crazy around here, so let me get caught up really quickly so that I can finish my programming homework this weekend and post regularly this week! ;-)

Grey’s Anatomy-  Can I just say “THANK YOU SHONDA RHIMES!” for finally giving us a female character who decides to ‘play the field’ and date more than one person at a time!  Thank you, Dr. Grey for NOT making a choice between the two…it serves McDreamy right!

CSI- What another great episode! I can’t believe Sam got shot, but doesn’t that mean that she’s now wealthy beyond imagination?

Six Degrees- I never realized how much I would like this show, it’s very interesting andn the storylines are intriguing, and it’s just a good all around show!

And I’m missing some stuff, like how farkin’ CHEESY Ghost Whisperer was last night (SNORE!) and how great Numb3rs was…and I’m sure that there are more…OH YEAH! I wanted to write about Survivor, it’s finally getting more involved and I can tell who I’m going to like and who I’m not going to like…and what makes Candice so freakin’ special? Did I miss something?

Ok, more on Monday with Housewives and all that! Have a great weekend!!! Oh don’t forget ‘Lost’ premeieres this week! Don’t miss it!

*excuse anny typos, I’m in a huge hurry and my N key sticks sometimes, sorry!*

Tuesday’s Premeires September 27, 2006

Well last night was Gilmore Girls, which I reviewed over at Pass The Remote, go check it out to see how I felt about the new writing (it’s not bad, promise!)

Also last night was ‘Help Me Help You’ with Ted Danson as a psychologist who runs group therapy.  It was very ‘Dear John’-ish in that it’s about the lives of a group of people who all attend the same group therapy sessions.  It even had the dude that was in ‘Dear John’ which I found a little weird, but decided to give the show a chance.  It wasn’t that funny.  I’m sorry, I love Ted Danson and even like to watch ‘Cheers’ reruns on TVLand, but really…it just wasn’t that funny.  The characters weren’t introduced that well, it was sort of like “Oh here, we’re going to tell you a story and here’s so-and-so and they have intimacy issues” Next please….  It just didn’t draw me in like most shows do.  Hopefully it’ll pick up within the next three episodes, but I don’t see how it could pick up anymore, it’s just really drab.  I’m actually having a hard time remembering what I watch last night…Dude that resembles Jason Ritter (that was creepy!) who tries to commit suicide, falls on his boss….likes a chick in the office, asks her out, she rejects him, he finds a chick who, like him, has some issues….blah blah blah…..Luckily for ABC and Ted Danson, there isn’t anything else in that time slot that I’m missing because of this show, or I’d cancel the season pass and move along…but I’ll stick it out.  I’ve always been a glutton for punishment.

What a Sunday! September 25, 2006

Filed under: Fall 2006, New Shows, Reality TV, TV Junkfood — tvturtle @ 12:57 pm

First off, I’m writing for Pass The Remote, doing recaps and stuff on Desperate Housewives, Gilmore Girls and teaming up with TVFan on Lost!  I’ve already written my first entry on ‘Housewives’, so my take on the premiere, go to PTR and check it out! :-)

On to last night’s TV-

Amazing Race- Ok, I’m going to be the first (that I know of) to say it….Peter (of Peter & Sara), is an asshole.  He’s constantly pushing Sara by reminding her “Show them how tough you are! Show them your strength! RUN!”….Now, if I were Sara I would see this as he is a little uneasy that his girlfriend has one leg and he wants to prove to everyone that his girlfriend is better than anyone else, despite her diability.  I’m sure a lot of people see it as he’s just ‘cheering’ her on…but seriously, his tone would make me smack him upside his head with my shoe (or in Sara’s case, I’d use the leg!)….He’s an ass, in my not so humble opinion, he’s an ass.  Ok, he’s coming across as an ass on TV, is that better? Maybe he’s a really swell guy, I don’t know.

David & Mary are my faves….They’re just simple folk who probably thought “Hey! Let’s do THAT!! That looks like fun! It’ll be a free vacation! SWEET!”  And they got on the show and I LOVE THEM!  They’re just happy to be traveling, they aren’t nasty or condecending, they’re just who they are and that’s ok.  And I swear the highlight of the show last night was when they were talking about Tom & Terry and they looked around and said in their quiet voices “We ain’t never been around gay people before.” Then Mary chimed in “I REALLY LIKE ‘EM!”  That was great!! I love it! GO Mary and David!!!!

And can I say I was a little sad that the cheerleaders got booted, they tried really hard and busted their tails and I actually felt bad for them.  I usually don’t care this early on, but they really did give it all they had.  I’m hoping that some folks in the back of the pack move up front so that the ‘uppers’ will get all territorial and then we can see some good drama! I just love The Race!

Without A Trace- Excellent start to the season!  Nothing overly dramatic happened, but it was a good show as usual.  Let’s see if I think that after next week’s episode, the stripper episode as I’ll call it…..grasping at straws much?

Brothers & Sisters- Ok, when I first read about this show I thought “Wow, that sounds like it could be really good…but it will probably suck.”  Then I realized that Sally Field and Rachel Griffiths are in it (yeah, Calista is in it, but we won’t hold that against the show, besides she actually did a fairly good job with her character!).  I’ve loved Rachel Griffiths since Six Feet Under (yeah she was on other shows, but I don’t remember her from any of those) and I am so glad that she has another show, she’s a talented actress!  Anyway, back to the show…EXCELLENT SHOW!!! I am throughly wrapped up in this show now! There was enough intrigue to leave me wanting more, but without being too over-the-top, the characters gave enough background information on themselves to give me a good idea of who everyone is and the conflict between the mother and daughter is excellent…Sally Field is the best actress…EVER! Watch this show if you haven’t already, it’s worth an hour of your time, trust me.

Between Brothers & Sisters, Studio 60 and Men in Trees, this new season of TV has proven fruitful! And we still haven’t seen Ugly Betty!!  Wow, we have way more TV on our TiVo than any normal person should have…..I should read more.

Friday Night And All Wasn’t Right September 23, 2006

Filed under: Dramas, Fall 2006, New Shows — tvturtle @ 1:06 am

Ghost Whisperer….Ok, the dark dude is a little silly.  And the whole good and evil thing kind of ticks me off….I won’t go into it, but they really play this show like it was a ghost story that was told at a girl’s slumber party.  And the clothes they make poor Jennifer Love-Hewitt wear…that poor girl!  Next week’s episode looks sort of interesting…it’s really more just to see where they’ll take it…but I’m not banking on the old boyfriend thing being that interesting.

(NOTE: I had high hopes for this next premiere, the ending of last season was superb, so I was anticipating this premiere all summer….I hate to be disappointed)

Close to Home….ugh, what a crappy thing to do…kill her husband off then bring in a handsome, classy character for her to fall in love with.  It’s clear as day.  Not to mention turning this into a whole ‘cop’ series instead of just a lawyer show.  That could actually make this show more interesting or it could send it down the tubes.  At least the acting talent is pretty good.  I remember watching Jennifer Finnigan when she was new to ‘The Bold & The Beautiful’…and dang she was young!  But she really grew as an actress, but it’s still hard to see her as a powerful attorney when I first saw her as a rich chick’s bratty kid.

Ok, what’s up with the new cast?  It’s like a whole new show….her husband dies, they fire everyone, add some detectives, and POOF! It’s three months later and hey look we have a whole new show called ‘Close to Home’…Ok, obviously they were afraid of jumping the shark so they took a show whose premise was all about crime in suburbia and have made it ‘gritty and raw’…..if it’s a show about suburbia, why were they in a city shaking down thugs?  I mean I could go downtown to the quaint little city block that makes up historic downtown and I won’t be finding any thugs….farmers in overalls maybe…but no thugs.  I’m pretty sure that
Indiana is similar.  I had the story pegged in the first 15 minutes and I had the season pegged with the first preview….husband dies, handsome, young DA moves in and one of the female ADAs finds him attractive, yet he’s attracted to the other female
ADA who happens to be the grieving widow. Who only has one weepy scene about her late husband in the whole episode….Then the new DA asks her out for drinks and says something sarcastically charming and she gives the camera  nice flattered smile…….yeah, whatever.

I’m not sure if I’m liking this new ‘Close to Home’….maybe I will….maybe I won’t.  The new DA is annoying me, “Oooh look at me! I’m from New York and am now in
Middle America, I know more than anyone else!”  It’s forced and predictable…They have one season to make me a believer.

Numb3rs…..Numb3rs is my comfort TV.  I use a lot of food references to my TV, like Big Brother is my TV Cheetos, total junk food TV…nothing of substance whatsoever.  Numb3rs is just my happy place, sometimes the story is a little far reaching, but I really just like the characters and the math in the show really helps my inner geeky girl to feel OK.

Men in Trees – Damnit! This is a great show, that won’t be on very long…it’s a crappy timeslot and it hasn’t been advertised….why do I always fall in love with the great shows that no one is watching?

Law & Order – Can they go through detectives any faster?  Jerry Orbach is VERY hard to replace, but dang…..

Damnit! I hate it when I do that!! September 22, 2006

Filed under: Dramas, Fall 2006, New Shows — tvturtle @ 8:18 pm

Last night was interesting.  First off, I have been saying that ‘Shark’ was going to be cheeky and stupid….instead, I liked it.  I hate it when I make a prediction that I’ll hate a show and I end up liking it.  It isn’t my favorite new show, but it was good enough to keep on the TiVo.  Six Degrees was ok, I want to see more though…great soundtrack too!

CSI was good, perfect premiere…they left us hanging about Catherine and her mysterious night at the bar.  And the final scene with Danny Bonaduce and the diorama! Dude that was excellent!  Grey’s Anatomy could learn a little from the CSI folks…I was a little disappointed in the season premiere….they wrapped up a little and did leave us hanging a little with Izzy and her internship, but still…I wanted a bit more drama.

I remind myself that premieres are really just there to get us acquainted or reacquainted with the characters and storylines…so I give every show at least a few episodes, or a whole season…sometimes I just go until I can’t take it anymore and I stop paying attention (that’s usually when the hubby gets involved in that show and I end up being bored with it!)….So, even though I wasn’t gah-gah over Grey’s Anatomy, I’ll keep watching because I’m sure the season as a whole will be awesome!

Survivor…well survivor was a little weird….I think Zoot summed it up nicely, go read her take on it, she makes excellent points and puts it better than I could!

Right now it’s Ghost Whisperer, which I know is stupid and cheesey, but it’s like a trainwreck that I can’t bear to turn away from.  Close to Home and Numb3rs is also tonight, more on those tomorrow! I hope they’re better than Ghost Whisperer……

Will Jericho go up in smoke? September 21, 2006

Filed under: Dramas, Fall 2006, New Shows — tvturtle @ 5:14 pm

Hmmm…my thoughts on Jericho can’t be published yet, because I don’t have any thoughts….well I do, but nothing that is solid, yet.  It could turn out to be a great show that I just can’t wait to see more of, or it could go down the tubes.  The writing is going to be crucial in this show and for its success.  I’m not a writer so I can’t say what needs to be done, but making the main character so mysterious is a little campy….But we’ll see how it all turns out next week, it really is a VERY interesting story and I hope that the writers take it in a great direction!  I’d love a new drama that pulls me in and makes me stay there.

Tonight is Survivor, which I love survivor!  Who doesn’t love people making fools of themselves on national TV?

OH!!! And Grey’s Anatomy!!! I can’t wait for that one! I might just watch it live WITH COMMERCIALS AND EVERYTHING!!! Because I’m not sure that I can wait for it to go 30 minutes so that I can forward through commercials!  CSI also has its season premiere tonight, which will be quite interesting I’m sure!  We plan to record Shark, but honestly with James Woods and that chick from cheeky fox shows…I’m not getting my hopes up for it, but I’ll keep the mind open, even if just a little!
